Mt. Zion Cemetery
Mt. Zion Cemetery is a historic resting place located across Highway K from Home Depot at 1522 Highway K, O’Fallon, MO 63366. Established in 1856, the cemetery is open to all families who need a final resting place.
Mt. Zion Cemetery is a mission of Cornerstone United Methodist Church and continues to serve families in O’Fallon and the surrounding area with dignity, care, and respect.
A Place Rooted in Local History
Mt. Zion Cemetery carries deep roots in both the local story of O’Fallon and the Methodist faith in St. Charles County.
Early Methodist Beginnings (1807)
The congregation’s history traces back to 1807, when Methodist circuit riders helped shape faith communities across the region. Some of the earliest gatherings took place in Jacob Zumwalt’s cabin, a well-known historic site in O’Fallon.
The Move to Highway K (1853)
In 1853, the Methodist congregation relocated to what is now the Mt. Zion Cemetery site on Highway K. With burial use spanning more than 170 years, Mt. Zion remains one of the older burial grounds in the area—an enduring witness to generations of local families.
Connection to Cornerstone United Methodist Church
Over time, the congregation moved from this site and eventually became Cornerstone United Methodist Church, now located on Tom Ginnever Avenue.
While the church’s primary location changed, Mt. Zion Cemetery remains a lasting testament to the congregation’s earliest presence and ministry in O’Fallon.
