About Holy Week

Just about everything related to Jesus Christ was surprising. His birth was a surprise. His teachings were surprising in refreshing and sometimes shocking ways.

The way Jesus spent most of his adult life with those who were poor, sick, vulnerable, and outcast was suprising. His miracles of healing and feeding those in need also surprised people.

His last week on Earth (what we call “Holy Week”) was very surprising to many. It began with crowds celebrating that Jesus had come to Jerusalem. It ended a few days later with his arrest, beating, crucification, and death.

Thankfully, there was one more surprise to the story! On Easter, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and the hope it offers to all of humanity. Light overcomes the darkness and even death has been conquered!

Easter is our reminder of how God's unending and unconditional love and grace offers us a future beyond death.

Palm Sunday Services
9a & 11a | March 29 | In-person & Online

Cornerstone UMC will offer a classic service at 9a in the Sanctuary and a modern service at 11a in The Corner. Both services will feature the waving of palm branches as Jesus experienced upon his entry into Jerusalem.

Palm Sunday begins a week of remembrance for Christians. Throughout this week, we reflect on the events that led to Jesus' resurrection.

About Palm Sunday

The name, “Palm Sunday,” comes from a story in the Bible in which Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem.

Prior to this event, Jesus and his friends roamed the countryside teaching and performing miracles, gaining a lot of recognition.

The people of Jerusalem were very excited that Jesus was coming to their city to celebrate a religious festival. In their excitement, the people grabbed palm branches to wave around and threw their cloaks before Jesus on the road.

Maundy Thursday Service
7p | April 2 | Sanctuary | In-person

On Maundy Thursday, Cornerstone UMC will offer a special candlelight service with soothing music. Participants will be able to receive prayers, anointing, and Holy Communion. All are welcome!

About Maundy Thursday

The English word "Maundy" comes from the Latin mandatum, which means "commandment."

Before his betrayal and arrest, Jesus gathered with his closest friends for a special meal, washed their feet, and gave them a new commandment to love one another as he had loved them (John 13:34).

Also known as “Holy Thursday”, it is the night before Jesus was crucified.

Good Friday Service
3p | April 3 | Sanctuary | In-person & Online

The Friday before Easter is when we remember the crucifixion of Jesus. This Good Friday service will focus on prayer as we reflect on the sacrificial love of God for all of humanity.

About Good Friday
